As gas prices remain near an all-time high, it’s more important than ever to understand exactly how much you spend when you’re driving around town. Thanks to MyMileMarker, you can easily track your vehicle’s mileage and then analyze the results with a system that calculates averages and projects future activity. From the true cost associated with car ownership, to ways you can save more, MyMileMarker delivers information in an easy-to-digest fashion.To get started, free registration is required. You then create a different page for each vehicle that you wish to monitor. Just fill in your car’s current mileage, how much fuel you recently added and how much money you paid per gallon. This can be done online or from any mobile device via Twitter. Of course, do NOT use your cell phone while pumping gas.

The information generated is useful to a) analyze the true fuel efficiency of your vehicle (never trust what the dealer tells you) b) help you make decisions on future purchases c) help you determine whether you should buy or lease in the future.

The site is currently in beta, and based on their current user agreement, they seem like they might attempt to monetize by offering up your information to dealers, manufacturers, etc.

It’s a web site… it won’t destroy your computer. We’ll take your data and store it, but if we lose it, we’re sorry. We’ll probably sell aggregate data (but not your name or email address) to advertisers. We reserve the right to charge for this at some point. I agreed and have added two vehicles. With only one full tank behind me, I have a ways to go before the system will generate useful data. We’ll keep you posted.
