Finally a YouTube for Kids - Totlol
With kids going more web-savvier than before, parents have no choice but to support or moderate their child’s online activities. Among these online activities, the most prominent is visiting online video sharing site such as YouTube. But the problem is, YouTube is a free-for-all and unmoderated video community. No parents to watch over your kid’s welfare. No filters to block off inappropriate videos for your kids’ viewing pleasures. Enter Totlol, a moderated video community which aims to provide an environment for our kids to have their daily dose of online video experience.
Totlol is community-moderated video website designed to be enjoyed by users from 6 months to 6 years of age. But if the kid in you just won’t go away or you love kids, you can still enjoy Totlol, which was just launched in May.
As we said, Totlol is a community-moderated video site. And when we say community-moderated we mean parents who screen and filters video submission coming from parents as well.
Ok, here’s how it works. Parents can search through YouTube’s video streams using Totlol’s YouTube interface and when they find something that are kid-friendly, they can submit the link to the Totlol community. The Totlol community would then screen these videos, subject it to a community of parents for evaluation, ask the parents who submitted the video some relevant questions. And once they approved, the videos would be included in Totlol’s database of videos for kids online.
Simple right? What’s good about Totlol is the fact that parents are given the responsibility to determine which videos can be watched by their kids. And that’s exactly how the world works, right?
Totlol is currently in beta stage and we fully support its objective. Hopefully, you fellow parents would do so too.

August 7th, 2008 at 6:58 amYouTubeRobot.com today announces YouTube Robot 2.0, a tool that enables you to download video from YouTube.com onto your PC, convert it to various formats to watch it when you are on the road on mobile devices like mobile phone, iPod, iPhone, Pocket PC, PSP, or Zune.
YouTube Robot allows you to search for videos using keywords or browse video by category, author, channel, language, tags, etc. When you find something noteworthy, you can preview the video right in YouTube Robot and then download it onto the hard disk drive. The speed, at which you will be downloading, is very high: up to 5 times faster than other software when you download a single file and up to 4 times faster when you download multiple files at a time.
Manual download is not the only option with YouTube Robot. You may as well schedule the download and conversion tasks to be executed automatically, even when you are not around. Downloading is followed by conversion to the format of your choice and uploading videos to a mobile device (if needed). For example, you can plug in iPod, select the video, go to bed, and when you wake up next morning, your iPod will be ready to play new YouTube videos.
