Twitter is cool with it’s text updates and all, but what if people could follow you as you post in video what you’re up to. That’s what 12seconds.tv lets users do.

While Twitter limits you to 140 characters, 12seconds limits you a video that is 12 seconds long.

Upload videos via Webcam or your mobile phone after registering. Like Twitter, you are given a unique e-mail address to send your content to. The two sites even get along. After sending a new video to 12seconds, you can auto-Tweet your Twitter followers.

The site is currently in alpha. I’m registered, but every time I’ve gone to make an update, I find myself looking to awkward to post.

This week, the site launched a new feature: Awards

Awards will appear in the right hand sidebar right above the 12second Challenge. We will issue awards for moments in history or individual accomplishments. To begin, we’ll issue two awards…

First 1200 12er Award
This is for the first 1200 registered users of 12seconds. If you’re among the first 1200, you’re stoked. This is award is now retired and can never be issued again. We are burning the Photoshop file with the design for this award as we speak.

Alpha Member Award
Let’s face it, you’ve put up with some bugs. You were smart enough to sign up early and play with it before it was a ubiquitous service that changed the landscape of social media. You deserve an award. Once we go into beta (which isn’t long now) this award will be retired.

12seconds also runs special challenges where you can win other awards.

With 10 employees and two ambitious founders, it will be interesting to see where 12seconds goes next.
