SportsFansLive Hopes to Become the Facebook of Sports
Banking on the reputation of its founder, David Katz who was once the head of Yahoo’s sports, entertainment and studios and had lead Yahoo’s sports site in top shape to compete with leading sports site espn.com, new social community site SportsFanLive is launching this week. SportsFanLive has a huge goal ahead - that of becoming the Facebook for Sports Fans.
Whether SportsFanLive can achieve this goal remains to be seen and depends on how the public will appreciate the site. But judging from early coverage from prestigious sites such as TechCrunch and even the New York Times, we would have to say that the site might actually hit it big.
SportsFanLive is a full-featured sports site which will certainly be a haven for sports fans worldwide. It features great collaboration, and online aggregation tools which most web 2.0 services have. Among these features include:
- full user customization of sites, similar to MyEspn or MyYahoo Portal
- full sports news aggregation specific to a user’s sports interests
- article and news items sharing with friends
- buddy alerts
- online, user-generated casino sports book, ala Fantasy Football League
Technically, the site design is pretty sleek with its dark green theme. Layout wise, SportsFanLive projects an aura of professionalism and you wouldn’t think that it is currently self-funded right now. There are still some lacking information though, such as FAQ and About page . Hopefully Katzand his webmasters could get it up and running just in time for its grand launch this week.
