Young members of social networking sites should take necessary precautions with the personal stuff that they are putting up on their social networking profiles. It won’t be long until your parents found at about your social networking activities, as a PEW study revealed that adult internet users have increased from 8% in 2005 to a whopping 35% right now. If you do the math, these adult membership was increasing at the rate of 8% annually. So, kids be careful because you might be adding as a contact to your social networking sites.According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project’s December 2008 tracking survey, adults make up the bulk of website users. In addition, the adult populace comprised the majority of the U.S. population. So, the 35% is certainly equal to more number of adult users jumping into the social networking bandwagon.
The study also revealed that the younger members of the online community are most likely to use social networking sites. In fact 75% of young adults ages 18-24 found to be most likely to use social networking sites, while only 7% of the adult population uses social network.
Interestingly, the study highlighted the fact that most social networking activities done by personal purposes as compared to professional use. And like teens, adult members of various social networking site do not want their personal lives interfering with their professional lives. Privacy conscious adult users comprised a big chunk of social networking members. In fact 60% of adult social network members have restricted settings on their profile.
So, kids the next time you add a member to your social networking profiles make sure that your parents are not watching you.
