You're right. I must admit I have been guilty of this myself, but I see now how lame the practice really is. And many of the "Big Time Tweeters" do infact RT their praises. It is really, really pathetic.

I will still RT posts or websites that feature me or my work, cuz hey, that's what I do! And such mentions would typically be a resource sharing post that I believe my followers are in fact interested in. Theres no shame in that.

Honestly I like the #FF .. Other than that you're right. All the above are OK if we ONLY have our real friends in the list whom we are close in reality.

Some good points here but not sure I agree with all of them.

I like it when others say good morning, especially organisations. Then you know they're online (bit like the little green button on FB).

I also definately look at other people's Follow Friday recommendations and have found some good stuff this way (admittedly I don't know the music monday thing works). What's important is that people say why you should follow and not just give a long list of names.

I think saying you've hooked up with someone can work if there is a purpose behind it. For example if you work for a charity and you've just hooked up with Gordon Brown who's going to give you more money to run a project, then your followers will probably be pretty interested to know that.

My pet hate though is people who put out 20 tweets in a row - it's like online verbal diarrhea.

Good article though - I enjoyed it!

My biggest pet peeve is those tweeps that rt every tweet that mentions them. If they get a compliment from someone, or a recommendation that they should be followed, they feel the need to retweet that whole tweet every time. It's so annoying and self serving. You can personally thank someone as I do or recommend them too without feeling the need to tell the rest of us over and over how wonderful someone thinks you are. There are a couple of Big Time tweeters that consistently do this. Annoying!!!

Eh, I agree with a lot but a lot of people don't care for social etiquette and will put on their crap on blast. The sports tweets are the only thing I disagree with. Especially if it is a highly intense game, it could be cool but then again I am a sports fiend.
