You only have to go a few years back to recall the days of expensive video editing equipment and software. These days, video editing software is readily available for free online, but many options are overly complicated, clunky and poorly designed. But if you are fortunate enough to have a computer with some decent processing power, you have several formidable options.

Let’s take a look at the top options in the free video editing software market.

1. Apple iMovie is highly acclaimed, especially by social networking video creators. iMovie comes with any new Mac purchased and is known as one of the simplest editors, designed especially for producing video quickly. iMovie lets users scan clips, isolate the desired portion and drop clips into order. Users no longer have to deal with rendering time, rather iMovie creates crossfades and titles instantly, and users can even send their final video directly to YouTube.

2. Microsoft Movie Maker which automatically comes on virtually all PCs, offers easy drag and drop editing and numerous add-ons to the software. Movie Maker is popular because of the many artistic and corrective options for video as well as a configurable interface. Movie Maker supports AVI/WMV input and is one of the few editors that can capture DV from a camcorder.

3. Video Spin is a free video editor download frequently compared to Movie Maker but is praised for its title editor and artistic effects. Video Spin allows users to instantly upload video to YouTube or Yahoo Video and functions completely on a drag and drop interface which is easy for a beginner yet advanced enough for the more tech savvy. There are add-on features that are available for a fee. The program is manufactured by Pinnacle Systems, creator of many different types of video software.

4. Wax is used as a free-standing app or as a plug-in for other video editors like Adobe Premiere. It can create 2D and 3D special effects like explosions and 3D text, and is known for its simple user interface. Wax is worth looking at because it allows users to output video in AVI, MPEG, WAV and even flash while some editors only output as AVI files. There are also neat features such as RotoMate which allows you to rotoscope/paint over video with fully keyframmable shapes and masks, Shatter, where you can create explosive effects and Particle Generator, where you can generate various natural particle effects like fire, smoke, and rain.

5. Zwei-Stein video editing offers a large library of special effects and transitions and has a superior cropping option. Zwei-Stein is known well for its ease of use and stability. It is not one of the more well known editors but is a simple option that is fast and doesn’t overuse computer memory. The download offers a 256 track video editor.

For the beginning editor or hobbyist, the free editors that come with new computers are often the superior option, but plug-ins are always a good supplement. Users should be watching for simple programs that are easy to use and the five above are just that!

What video editor do you use? With so many on the market, which is your favorite and which would you *not* recommend to others?

Last week my boss approached me about a presentation she was putting together for a large audience. Her default play was to put together the typical Powerpoint slideshow which she planned to narrate.

Yawn. Snore. Boring!

Thankfully she has an open mind and I was able to introduce her to screencasts: simple videos that have the ability to show what is happening on the computer screen. They can be recorded in advance and some neat bells and whistles can be added. The best part is that many of these tools are free.

ScreenToaster

ScreenToaster is compatible with Windows, Mac OS X and Linux and is 100% Web-based. Simply approve a Java Applet to run and you can capture screen actions with a single click.

The keyboard command of ‘ALT + S’ will record/pause your presentation. Choose to record the full screen or designate a specific area, depending on what you are looking to illustrate.

Bonus features include the ability to add subtitles, an option to remove/replace audio and control over a screencap preview.

Upon completion of your recording, you can upload the file to ScreenToaster for the highest resolution; send it to YouTube for a more compressed version. Videos can also be saved locally as a Quicktime file or Flash (in beta).

Social networking: E-mail screencasts to a friend, share them across all the usual networks, generate a URL or embed directly on your site.

Capture your screen in seconds

FreeScreencast

FreeScreencast allows you to create Flash-based screencasts for free after downloading the required screecast recorder. The software is ad-free and allows you to publish to the internet in seconds.

Embed your screencast in your website or blog.

Screencast-O-Matic

All of the tools listed here allow you to not only create screencasts, but to view other people’s casts as well. Screencast-O-Matic does this better than most by letting the user search for videos in dozens of different languages.

To record, approve the Java applet and you are off and running.

Videos can be placed into “channels” which users create. These channels generate a pop-up window or an embeddable box that let viewers add videos into the channel. So for example, we could create a Rotorblog Channel and ask our wonderful readers to submit screencasts.

Jing

Jing is free but requires a download. The software, which adds visuals to your online conversation, works on both Windows and Macs.

For a maximum of five minutes, Jing will record all of the actions that take place on your screen. If your computer is mic’d up, you can record audio simultaneously.

Uploaded videos can be accessed via unique URL or embedded on a Web site.

Jing’s functions expand beyond screencasts. You can also use the service to put your “Print Screen” button to shame. Select a portion of the screen, grab an image and then mark it up with text boxes, arrows, highlights or rectangles. The image can then be one-clicked over to Screencast.com, Flickr, Twitter or just about anywhere.

A paid version, known as Jing Pro lets you sync videos with Vimeo and Viddler, record MP4 screencasts and eliminate “Jing” labeling from your final product.

Honorable Mention

Capture Fox

If you’re a Firefox user, there is a great add-on that records your screen frame-by-frame. Add your voice and download as an .AVI file. Since it works within the browser, it is not OS dependent.

Camtasia Studio

For $299 you can record onscreen activity, edit it and share with the world.

Adobe Captivate

For $799 you can create professional-looking eLearning content with advanced interactivity, software and scenario simulations, quizzes, and other engaging experiences — no programming or multimedia skills required.

In my humble opinion, I do not see the need to pay for any of these tools, unless you are really looking to WOW an audience. My fall back choice is ScreenToaster. It has proven to be a consistent and useful with excellent uptime.

If you’re a Facebook and Gmail user (who doesn’t anyway?), you’d be glad to know that Facebook now supports myOpenID. This means that you can now use your Gmail credentials to login to Facebook. To put in in a simpler way, this simply means that everytime you are logged in to your Gmail account, the moment you visit Facebook, you will be automatically logged in. Meaning, you don’t need to type in your username and password anymore.

This in effect saves you some time and provides quick access to your Facebook profile page.

To enable this feature you need to link your Facebook to your Gmail account first. Just go to your Facebook account settings, select Gmail in the Linked Accounts section, and that’s it.

Log in to your Gmail account then go to http://facebook.com. Notice that you will be directed to your Facebook profile without being asked to login first.

This feature is currently in testing mode, so expect more enhancements sometime soon.

YouTube has recently rolled out a new feature which would bring television shows and movies of its content partner to the YouTube stream. With this new feature, YouTube users would be able to enjoy watching tv show episodes and movies from content owners such as CBS, MGM, Lionsgate, Starz and Crackle. And since these content are under the YouTube video stream, you can comment on this video contents as well as share them with your friends and family. You can access this new contents by simply clicking on the new “Shows” tab listed under the Yahoo masthead. You can browse TV shows by genre, network, title and popularity. In addition to this, you can also see the new “Subscriptions” tab which if you have logged-in to your YouTube account will give you access to the newest video from the YouTube content partners.

But of course like all good new things, this feature comes catch. And that is through in-stream ads which YouTube have been testing since October last year.

This new YouTube feature is currently available for YouTube users in the U.S. only. But the good news is, YouTube plans/hopes to roll out this feature to other regions as well. But for the subscriptions feature, you can start using it in the next few weeks. And you can have this feature no matter where you are located.

Yahoo’s answer to Google’s YouTube, Flickr Video has been around for quite some time now. Although it has managed to gather some membership base and loyal followers, Flickr Video still couldn’t quite take off primarily because it was available to premium members only. Now, hoping to spruce up its services, Flickr Video is opening its services to everyone, plus introducing two other new features that aims to entice users to use Flickr Video instead of YouTube.First things first, Flickr Video gives free members two video upload limits per month which is in addition to their 100MB monthly photo upload limit. Now this may not be as popular as the unlimited video uploading feature of YouTube, but it’s good enough to use the service as way to share your personal videos to people that matter to you without needing to send the videos as email attachments.

Aside from opening up its video uploading service to everyone, Flickr Video is also riding on the popularity of HD videos by enabling HD video uploading and viewing. Whereas only PRO members can upload HD videos, the rest of the Flickr community can however view them. Now, it’s time for me to buy an HD Video camcorder.

The last new feature introduced by Flickr Video is the Flickr Clock. Flickr Clock displays videos according to the time they were taken. You can upload up to the minute videos and have viewed on the Flickr Clock Timeline. It’s like Twittering for videos, actually. You can see Flick Clock in action here.

Can these new features increase Flickr Video’s popularity and usage enough to give YouTube a run for its money? Hopefully. We all need an alternative for something so good as YouTube. But the problem with YouTube is that it is becoming to commercialized. Flickr Video is a good alternative. And these features are good ways to show the world that Yahoo is serious about Flickr video.

Here’s a sample of Flickr Video in HD quality.

There’s no doubt that YouTube is the ultimate resource for cool videos on the web.
As a child of the 90’s, I’ve always been a fan of the low budget music video. Insert grainy black and white effect HERE.

A new venture between Next New Networks and Verizon FiOS, 99DollarMusicVideos, hopes to connect the bridge between rookie artists and independent filmmakers. The site plans to release a new music video weekly and distribute it through YouTube and iTunes.

THE RULES

1. It must be made for $99 (or less)

2. It must be shot in one day (24 hours).

3. It must be edited in one day (this doesn’t include rendering, digitizing, or exporting — just the creative part of editing).

4. It must be a collaboration between the band and the filmmaker.

The only video currently available is from a band named La Strada. Personally, I’m a bit surprised the site didn’t build up a repository of more music videos before releasing the site to the public. But hopefully a team of impressive creative minds and the financial power of FiOS can overcome this obstacle.

Each video will jam FiOS down your face before the music starts. A visit to the site’s “Advertise” link reveals that you should expect more ads in the future. No good site comes without a price, eh?

To get started, directors need to hook up bands. Watch a video about submitting a video here.

SlideShare has been around in this web 2.0 niche for quite some time now and has made great strides in making their service as useful and as functional as possible. And the latest feature that they’ve introduce is what everybody has been wishing to have – embedding YouTube video on their SlideShare presentation. The new feature allows you to insert multiple videos, with a current limit of 5 videos at a time, from YouTube which will appear as separate slides. This new feature follows after SlideShare has enabled users to include audio background to SlideShare presentations.

SlideShare is using YouTube APIs so expect to get some latency especially if you have inserted five videos onto your SlideShare presentation. Ideally, one to two videos will work flawlessly with your SlideShare presentation.

The embedding feature works similarly with the way you insert videos on your blogspot hosted blogs. Meaning, you just need to enter the URL of the video when you are creating a post. Then once you’ve published your post, the SlideShare presentation with inserted video will seamlessly stream.

The good thing about this new feature is the fact that when you embed your presentation on your blog, the YouTube video you’ve inserted will play smoothly as well. Once embedded on your presentation, you can use the SlideShare controls to advance the slides. And you can also use the full-screen view of Slideshare to view your videos inside your presentation in full-screen view as well.

If you’re interested to try out this new SlideShare feature, simply upload a presentation to slideshare >> Edit Slideshow >> Insert your YouTube videos>> Select where you want to place the video>> then Insert and Publish

Here’s a sample SlideShare presentation with inserted YouTube video.

It has been a busy week for YouTube with several news coverage reporting various changes on the number 1 video uploading site. These changes include the muting options for uploaded videos, YouTube TV Channel for game consoles, YouTube Channel for the U.S. Senate and House of Reps, and the most recent video download option. With Google still struggling to make big bucks out of the popularity of YouTube it is but logical that YouTube tries to enhance its services some more and avoid pitfalls that would otherwise turn YouTube users to its rival sites. Here’s a recap of some of the most exciting things that happen in YouTube this week.

Implementing Copyright Protection Policy on YouTube videos

It’s a known fact that the major reason which catapulted YouTube to where it is right now is the numerous originally-created video content uploaded by users worldwide. YouTube has become the premiere video-sharing site which connects distant people through a lively communication media. This originally-created video contents varies from self-made MTVs, photo slideshows and even self-shot greetings. So, what’s the problem? These videos often feature background music which are used by video owners without permission to the copyright owners. And this could pose a problem to YouTube if music owners go after them. The solution, indentify those video contents with unauthorized background music and mute each one of them. Certainly, YouTube users were not happy, and an outrage ensues. But YouTube can’t do anything about this, since it is a necessary step to ensure that no legal case will be filed against them which might lose its mother company, Google some big bucks in settlement. And Google doesn’t want that to happen especially since they have been trying to find ways of generating revenues for YouTube. Will this prompt YouTube users to seek the comforts of YouTube’s rival for their video uploading activities? That would be interesting to find out.

YouTube on Your TV via Game Consoles

If you’ve been longing to watch YouTube videos right on your wide-screen Plasma TVs and LCDs, you can now do so for as long as you have a Playstation 3 or a Nintendo Wii console. YouTube has rolled out a TV Channel which sits right on the two consoles browsers, complete with navigation controls for remote navigation. This is a start of something bigger, something that would hopefully allow YouTube video viewing without the need for those two consoles. And we’re excited to have that feature soon.

YouTube Gets Political and Socially Relevant

Another feature which hit the headlines this week re YouTube is the launch of the YouTube Channel for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. The channel serves as a portal for the video messages, video communication paraphernalia of the U.S. Senators and Congressmen. This is a good way of reaching out to their constituents as well as to the whole world. This only goes to show how YouTube could be a useful resource for more matured and socially-relevant activities.

Download YouTube Video

Although not yet officially announced, some YouTube users noticed a new link that appeared below the video player on YouTube. The link says -> “Click to Download”. And yes, you guess it right, you can now download some YouTube videos in MP4 format to your PC. We cannot ascertain yet the conditions for videos to have that link. So, we will have to wait for official announcement from YouTube if there will be any. In the meantime check out some of your favorite videos in YouTube to see if the link is already displayed.

There you go, four new things that happened on YouTube this week. With all these new features and enhancements, we still can’t help but wonder, like Google probably, how this will bring in revenue to YouTube. More specifically how Google can fully monetize the substantial site traffic that YouTube has been getting since it became a big hit.

Update: The YouTube Blog has finally made a statement regarding this new muting policy.

One of the things that made YouTube such a big hit was the fact that it enables users to upload their originally recorded video, be it coming from their videocamera or a slideshow of photos created using Windows Movie Maker. Using Windows Movie Maker, users can easily add MP3 sound to their video to serve as a background music. Unfortunately it looks like YouTube users who are fond of sharing these videos to their friends using YouTube will not longer be able to do it. YouTube is starting to mute videos with copyrighted audios.

After muting the videos, YouTube then displays a note below the video screen saying that the video content contains an unauthorized audio track. This simply means that practically, YouTube is making its video sharing site a silent hill for user-generated content.

Of course, long-time and avid users of YouTube will get appaled by this new policy, which YouTube has so implemented without even a warning posted on their blog (as of this moment, there is still no post explaining this move).

And just so you know, these users are probably composed of majority of YouTube members. You can just imagine how these users would react to YouTube’s decision to mute these kinds of video. And while you are imagining that, imagine also what YouTube could become if it has muted all the video contents with unauthorized audio.

Really, if Google is trying to control the proliferation of unauthorized video and audio content on its site, it might as well close down the service. Because how good is a community site for uploading video if it will not allow videos without audio tracks.

And besides, to what extent does copyrighted music should be used after all?

Certainly, YouTube has nothing to earn from this decision, except for a growing number of irate users who might come a time will shift to other sites without those restrictions.

Then, it could spell the death of YouTube.

There’s no doubt that YouTube is perhaps most widely used online service worldwide. Even the US Government has recognized its potential to reach large-scale audience not only coming from the U.S., but from other countries as well. And so the YouTube Senate Hub and Congress Hub were born.

These two Congressional YouTube Hubs have one purpose – to reach out to the U.S. constituents through. TV is a thing of the past. YouTube is the new wave of communication. If you want to say something to the world, grab a videocam and record what you have to say and then upload in YouTube. And this is what the U.S. Congress have in mind.

The U.S. Congressional YouTube Hubs showcase the both members of the Senate and the House of Representatives. It serves as portals for the senators and congressman and congresswoman’s own YouTube channels. Basically the hubs contain pretty much all the stuff that you usuall find in a regular YouTube channel – Favorites, Playlist and all.

But a nice feature of these YouTube channels are the huge U.S. maps showing the different states. Clicking on a state will give you a list of the Representatives in the said state and their respective YouTube channel.

These YouTube hubs are just but one good example showing the YouTube is starting to mature from its previous just-for-the-fun-of-it type of video uploading service to becoming a resounding voice in the society.

The U.S. Congressional YouTube channel is a good example to follow for other countries who want to reach out to their constituents, provided that they have a solid national IT infrastructure and a high Internet literacy among their citizens.

But how can you not admit the obvious when once in awhile you encounter social sites catering to books and reading such as LibraryThing, Shelfari and now the latest of which is the utterly innovative Reading Trails?Reading Trails unlike LibraryThing and Shelfari offers a different kind of cataloging/organizing books. Think of it as a Techmeme for book titles and you’d know what I mean.

Instead of putting books on a virtual shelf, Reading Trails connects books via trails. A better way to explain is by an example from an actual trail for books about “Dune”. So let’s say you haven’t read the book “Dune 40th Anniversary Edition” and plans of buying it. But wait you found out by checking Reading Trails that there are other books about “Dune” which you are not aware of. Thanks the book trails, you’d discover other related books related to it.

Now it gets more fun when another member creates his own book trail and it so happens that he has read one of you books. Hence, your Reading Trail intersect with each other. So that’s add another source of book lists which you might interested to check out. Imagine the possibility if more trails intersect and soon enough you have established a web of book reading lists.

Aside from trails, Reading trails also lets you tag your books and trails. Once you’ve tagged a particular book on your trail or from other people’s trail, it becomes part of your Reading Trails profile. And every Trail you tag become part of your Trails.

Most importantly, Reading Trails also has a widget function which lets you embed your trails on your blogs or websites.

Meaning your Facebook friends can receive your voice messages even when they are not on online in Facebook – that is through their mobile phones or through SMS messages.

Voicetag also makes it simpler to leave send a voice message to your Facebook friends. All you need to do is to choose the Facebook contact you want to send a voice message to, then add an optional text message and then enter your own phone number. After a while Voicetag will call you on the number you specify and you can start recording your message.

Voicetag’s Facebook application will then send an alert to your friend notifying them of the voice message you sent. They can play the Voicetag from their Facebook Profile.

In addition to this, Voicetag also lets you leave a voice message to Facebook groups SMS message sent to Voicetag. The same procedure will be followed – that is Voicetag will call your number and then you can start recording your message.

As this involves mobile network time, Voicetag would definitely put a price tag on this service soon. Lucky for us now, the service is still free. So, you better try out the service and start sending those holiday cheers through your own voice message.

To see how Voicetag works while you’re on Facebook, check out this video.

and TC has listed the following features of Voicetag.

The ability to not only record but also deliver voice messages to phones, in addition to the online voice Inbox we have today.

The ability for the message recipient to interact with the message via touch tone when they hear the message on the phone (imagine that you can send out a voice poll on “where do we want to eat tonight? punch 1 for XYZ; punch 2 for ABC”, and get the votes back in text message!)

The ability to start ad hoc group / conference calls among facebook friends.

The ability to call your Facebook friend on the phone no matter where she is in the world, and no matter how many times she has changed her phone number since you last talked.

Zaplive.tv is a Web site for anyone and everyone from all over the world to post “live” broadcasts and then chat with viewers about the broadcasts.

The Web site simply requires you to sign up (free of charge) and then connect your camcorder or Webcam to the computer. The Web site then detects the footage and loads it up to your Web page. Further, it allows you to chat with your viewers or post comments on other’s broadcasts. My initial question was how is this different from YouTube? Zaplive seems to cater more towards those who are interested in having or watching Web TV, rather than a singular video or download. You can start your own web TV or follow your favorite web TV station. It also offers a schedule of events just like a TV would as well as a page to search through recorded videos by date and length of time.

zaplive.tv is not only live but also interactive. Users embed their broadcasts to arbitrary external sites. Using live chat and voting, the users stay in touch everywhere and at any time and build a viral community that influences the quality of the specific broadcasts at the same time.

For those that are really interested in video downloads and the translation of TV to the computer, this is definitely an intriguing website to start downloading and viewing shows. Other than that, the video content on here is not really targeted towards the same audience as YouTube seeks out. You are more likely to find an interesting live video of a lion in the African Bush rather than your favorite Sarah Palin impression by Tina Fey.

Some people may not like what YouTube just rolled out for its online video player, in fact many people didn’t like it and are clamoring for an opt out and to revert back to the original screen size. We’re talking about YouTube’s decision to tranform its video player into 960 pixels, hence making all videos uploaded YouTube to be displayed in widescreen regardless of what size YouTube users shoot them. Happy with that?

Interestingly, the new feature has elicited various reactions from many YouTube users. Some were so outraged by the shift from a larger screen resolution and are demanding that YouTube give an option to revert back to the original screen size. The larger screen resolution and wider video player have practically destroyed uploaded video contents which were recorderd using the standard non-widescreen aspect ratio. So would not get mad upon seeing their precious little productions get pixelated and rasterized and practically rendered visually useless?

YouTube was quick to add some suggestions and tips on how to make videos appear more pleasant if users still use non-HD camcorders. But this is for new videos to be uploaded. And users are mad about their already uploaded videos. And that’s what YouTube should be addressing if it wants to pacify the angry YouTube users.

But looking ahead, the new widescreen viewing is inevitable and YouTube needs to roll out now to catch up with the getting to be popular and widely used Hulu. And with various deals going on with major studios, YouTube is just gearing up for more high-quality, high-resolution videos that will soon be appearing on its content network.

I personally think that the new YouTube widescreen video player was not really mean to please the millions of YouTube content uploaders but rather future video content producers who will be putting their licensed video contents in YouTube in the near future. This major content providers are the ones who will bring money to YouTube’s revenue streams, and this what matters most for YouTube.

Meanwhile, us ordinary video content creator and uploader will just have to make do with the not-so good display of our not-so-goog quality videos. Unless we decide to invest on high-quality video camcorders capable of recording HD video.

When we talk of virtual worlds, the first thing that would normally come into our minds is Second Life. Despite its flaws, Second Life has become the major virtual community on the web. But that is not to say that Second Life is THE ONLY virtual world. There are still other companies which provide a 3D platform where users can create their own 3D virtual world. One of them is Metaplace.

Metaplace claims itself as the world’s first open platform that provides anyone to create, build and live in their own unique virtual world. It aims to lets users create a network of worlds that vary from being a gaming community to a business environment with members that collaborate, socialize and do business. In short, Metaplace wants to be the MySpace of virtual worlds, and to do that it tries to assimilate the real-life community, although in the most imaginative and creative way.

The people behind Metaplace hopes to make it easy for users to create their own community and let it grow to whatever purposes they want it to achieve. The Metaplace world caters to both new users and professional game developers. And it hopes to become the virtual equivalent of profile pages in your regular social networking site.

Metaplace’s business model is clearly seen even though the site is still in beta. And what could this business model be? You have to look back and find out that it might actually be used by Second Life – virtual ads?

Would the $6.7 million funding recently awarded to Metaplace, we’re pretty sure that it might be able to catch up with Second Life.

Google is really trying to find ways of making YouTube viable and sustainable. For quite some time now, YouTube has failed to bring in some considerable revenues to Google despite its popularity and high-traffic. Recently, YouTube has rolled out a Click-to-Buy service which enables users to purchase soundtracks and music featured on vides that they watch on YouTube. Before this, YouTube has also introduced a wide-screen video watching options. These two are just prelude to a bigger feature which YouTube rolled out just now – full length video streaming of CBS video content.

If you’re familiar with YouTube rival HULU, which has been aggressively pushing Internet TV, you may think of this YouTube feature as something to that effect and it looks like YouTube is trying to catch up with Hulu.com.

For YouTube’s full-length video streaming content, it is offering some old and new shows such as MacGyver, Star Trek and Beverly Hills 90210. For new shows, it is also streaming season premier episodes of Dexter and Californication as well as new episodes of the show The Young and the Restless.

But wait, if you think that YouTube has nothing to gain from this, well we might be all wrong. Those full-length video contents will be supported by pre-roll, mid-roll and post-roll ads coming from CBS ad inventory. For every revenue that CBS gain from those ADS, YouTube gets a part of it.

Whether this YouTube monetization scheme would prove successful to Google remains uncertain. But if it does pull some positive feedback from online users, then finally Google can rest easy knowing that their investment on YouTube which has been dominating the online video market, is finally bringing them some good ROI.

The full-length videos can be seen by selected regional areas covered of course by the CBS network. Unfortunately, Asian countries will not have access to these videos. Google might want to rethink about this restrictions as these might cause non-US users to look for unrestricted sources which are also residing on YouTube content.

For all of you avid YouTube users who often encounter a great soundtrack on YouTube videos they’ve watched and want to get a copy of those music files, the number one video sharing site is offering a new service called Click-to-Buy. This new service will help you in getting soundtracks of video games, or soundtrack of MTV videos you see on YouTube.

This Click-to-Buy service will be implemented on thousands of YouTube videos made available by the company’s content partners. This comes by way of unobtrusive retail links that will be displayed beneath the video along with the other YouTube community features. The Click-to-Buy links will enable users to buy products including songs, books and movies which are related to the video they are watching.

The Click-to-Buy kicks off with iTunes and Amazon.com links from companies including EMI Music, as well as on video games recently released such as Spore.

YouTube has launched this new feature with the aim of providing a viable eCommerce platform. And with the popularity of YouTube videos, it is but logical the YouTube tries to implement ways by which it can generate revenue for the company. Google has been trying to find ways of monetizing YouTube videos but they can never seem to get a good start. The company is hoping that the Click-to-Buy feature would be a start of a better video monetization feature for YouTube.

This new feature is being gradually added to YouTube’s vast library of music videos and are currently available only in the US.
